About The 1965 Magic Bus VW

In 2007 Volkswagen held a concert in Hanover, Germany, as part of it's 60th anniversary celebrations..
The Who have a long standing relationship with VW and were the headline act. The audience, made up of music fans and VW enthusiasts alike, went wild when the Who played their hit song 'Magic Bus' (an anthem for VW fans). It was then the idea to create a real Magic Bus came into being. The bus would be customised and raffled to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust of which Roger Daltrey is a patron. VW Commericals sourced a suitable vehicle and the plan took shape.

The Magic Bus is a 1965 Volkswagen T1 panel van, sourced from California and then transported to VW's 'old timer workshop' in Hanover for some minor restoration. The outside was designed by Richard Evans, the Who's art director, Richard has worked with the band for over 30 years, creating album covers and tour designs, the images he has selected for the bus exterior represent The Who through their 40 year career.

The Magic Bus is also autographed inside by Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and Richard Evans.

The retro 1960's interior was designed based on an idea by Jade Carly Jones, a design student of the University of Bolton.

The bus can seat 5 people comfortably at the back, it has a modern sound system and retro drinks cabinet.

The VW Transporter remains to this day one of the most instantly recognisable road vehicles, a true design classic and enjoys cult status with young and old alike.

Nothing turns heads like the Magic Bus and with The Who connection makes it a genuine one off in the true sense of the word, the Magic Bus is the coolest ride out there!
